Do you ever notice yourself critiquing people as you watch them at the airport, in the grocery store line, or sitting in church? I confess, I find myself looking at their clothes, hair, and facial expression. People watching is a favorite pastime for many, but what you think about people while watching them makes a difference in the way you interact and write about people.
Recently I've been hearing what I am saying through their ears. What if they could hear what I'm thinking? I quickly change to a more positive voice while describing the person to myself.
Some people are born seeing the positive in everyone and some are born very critical. In fact, some people make a living writing very critical and sometimes uncomplimentary articles and reviews. That is not the type of writer I want to be. I want to use my critical mind to make positive change.
How do you use your heart and mind in your writing?
